![]() ![]() Left feeling like the dentist knew it wouldn’t work but pushed it on me anyway. ![]() Fortunately my insurance covered it, but I still feel bad about the waste of money. Just test fitting it hurt my teeth so bad that I could feel it the next day. They 3D scanned my mouth and created something that was supposed to move my lower jaw forward, millimeters at a time, over like 6 weeks. Went along with it anyway in a lapse in judgement because. Learned that the use of this appliance would probably move my teeth and negatively affect my jaw alignment. Had to get a special referral to get insurance coverage. I went to a well-reviewed local dentist who specializes in treatment of sleep apnea because I didn’t want to go back to using my machine. Please note I'm not talking about the stuff you can buy on the Internet. So, can anyone tell me about their experience with an oral appliance? She says it should be about CAD$2k and my insurance might cover a bit of it as it's prescribed for bruxism too. I'm also a severe grinder and this would apparently work for bruxism, too (wearing my night guard with a CPAP mask on was also not great). She showed me a couple and one looked like a medieval torture device, but she assured me that the metal in the teeth segments was just for strength. Even in socialist Canada, MMA surgery has an out-of-pocket expense of $7,000 (Ontario) because it's elective. She was wonderfully supportive and said she's my sleep advocate and I can try something else. I've tried, but it's causing more problems for me than its solving (it causes extreme sleep anxiety for one). So, I met with my sleep doctor this past week and ashamedly told her that I have given up CPAP therapy.
